DATE: AUGUST, 2000
EXPIRES: N/A

SUBJECT: Quantar/Quantro enhanced code plug conditioning

MODELS AFFECTED: Quantar/Quantro stations, (T5365A) Quantar Sattellite Receivers, (T5367A) and Astro-Tac Receivers (T5589A) along with all station control module Fru(s) (field replacement unit) associated with the above models.

SYSTEMS AFFECTED: Conventional and Trunking

SYMPTOM: Station will not come out of reset upon power up. Station will function properly upon reloading archived station codeplug.

CAUSE: Memory EEPROM IC (51-84293T01/T02/T03/T04) used in each of the above models, has been found over time may experience memory alteration in unprogrammed portions of its memory. All memory locations that have been programmed by either the Factory or RSS appear to hold information correctly, and only the remaining unprogrammed portions of the code plug may not retain its original factory programming. This condition may result in a checksum inaccuracy when the device is checked upon a reset/power up, and the station will not come out of reset and thus fails to operate.

RESOLUTION: An enhanced code plug-conditioning algorithm has been developed for the Quantar/Quantro stations, and Receivers, and will improve the life cycle of the stations code plug (U655). Stations shipping since 08/01/00 with station firmware version as listed below have incorporated this enhancement and will perform the code plug conditioning upon the initial power up sequence.

10.7-(PC509F103000010066) for 6809 Trunking, Conventional, Astrotac Receivers, and Quantar Receivers.
10.7-(PC509F104000010560) for IR repeaters.

Stations which shipped prior to 08/01/00 can have the improved feature by utilizing RSS software version V10.7 (RVN5002Z) or later by following the procedure below.

1) Archive station code plug before performing code plug conditioning routine.
2) Once code plug has been archived, read the station a second time.
3) The conditioning pop up screen will appear. Enter F5, and the process will take approximately 5         minutes to complete.
4) Once the code plug conditioning has been completed, the code plug conditioning pop up screen will not appear .  The code plug has now been conditioned successfully.

NOTE: For existing stations that do not have firmware version V10.7 or later, the RVN-5002Z Quantar RSS will condition the code plug using the enhanced conditioning algorithm. The RVN-5002Z is available by contacting Accessories and Aftermarket Division (AAD) at 1-800-422-4210.
