Quantar Backplane Extender

Many times it's needed to operate a module on the bench while connected to the Quantar backplane. Motorola had some no long available cables which were almost $800 for the kit. I've been successful using 5-volt 32-bit PCI extension cables. You will have to cut one end down to fit the card and the slot, but leave the other end intact and use more of the cables to extend out from the chassis.

You may want to add a handle on the ones that plug into the chassis, as it'd hard to fit your hands into it. Reinforcing/replacing the cheap blue insulation tape with Kapton tape is a good idea too. For testing I've avoided this using a modified quantar chassis with the internal metal dividers removed thus allowing my hands to fit in the back.

If you want to extend the wireline or SCM, you will need two sets of cables as they have two connectors on them.

I've used up to 6 cables (36" total) and had no operational issues during testing.

I've found the seller "microsatacables" has these on ebay for cheap at this link.
