LAND MOBILE PRODUCT SECTOR PSB # 846

1301 E. ALGONQUIN RD. APC # 448,482,509,675

SCHAUMBURG, IL. 60196 DATE: JULY, 1998

(847) 576-0180 EXPIRES: 7/31/99

SUBJECT: 6809 Smartnet Quantar Base Station Fails To Transmit Console Or Interconnect Audio.

MODELS AFFECTED : T5365A (6809 TRUNKED QUANTARS)

SYSTEMS AFFECTED: MIXED MODE ASTRO (2.0.3 OR 3.0) SMARTNET (NON SIMULCAST)

ISSUE:

During periods of high call activity, when both Analog and Astro call traffic is in progress on the system, the Quantar fails to transmit audio when the channel is assigned and an Analog Console call or Interconnect call is processed. When this failure occurs during the Analog Console call, the Quantar station keys up and modulates the ASTRO audio, but bursts of noise is all that is heard at the subscriber units. When the failure occurs during an Interconnect call, the Quantar station keys up but does not modulate the ASTRO audio and nothing is heard at the subscriber units.

In both cases, the cause of the problem is the failure of the Quantar station to set-up the modulation mode of the DIU.

This problem has existed in Quantar release 6.1 (2.0.3 systems) through release 9.6 (3.0 systems).

RESOLUTION:

Upgrade the Quantar station firmware to release 9.7. To obtain the firmware contact the System Support Center at 1-800-448-3245 and make reference to this bulletin.
