DATE: NOVEMBER, 1999

EXPIRES: N/A

SUBJECT: LOW POWER QUANTAR SHOWS DIAGNOSTIC ERRORS AFTER POWER ON SELF TEST AND REPORTS DIGITAL METERED VOLTAGES INCORRECTLY.

MODELS AFFECTED: T5365A QUANTAR/QUANTRO, T5367A QUANTAR RECEIVER

(Models Affected were built between 5/01/99 and 10/01/99)

SYSTEMS AFFECTED: CONVENTIONAL AND TRUNKING

SYMPTOM: During power up the Quantar RSS diagnostic test fails for incorrect digital meter readings of the 28V and 14V power supply. The RSS digital metering report are reported incorrectly as follows:

  • The 28Vdc reads 14.32V (approximately) and it should read N/A.
  • The 14Vdc reads 0.9V (approximately) and it should read 14.37V (approximately).
  • The 5V report reads correctly.

Please note, this is a diagnostic failure only, the 14V and 5V are correct, and this incorrect digital metering will not affect the operation of the station.

As a result of this issue, the following messages will appear in the Quantar RSS Status Report:

"EXECUTE_CONTINUOUS_DIAGNOSTICS PS_14V"

"EXECUTE_CONTINUOUS_DIAGNOSTICS PS_28V" These messages should be ignored.

CAUSE: The diagnostic circuits in the CPN1049B, and CPN1050B power supplies, built between 5/1/99 and 10/1/99, were assembled similar to the high power supply causing this abnormally in the voltage reading.

RESOLUTION: To prevent this diagnostic failure, the 14V and 28V Power Supply diagnostics can be disabled at Cold and Warm startup ( which will not affect the operation of the station ) by;

  • Connecting a PC equipped with the Quantar RSS to the Quantar, and starting the RSS application.
  • From the MAIN MENU, go to SERVICE: Diagnostics.
  • In the Power Supply diagnostics screen, tab to the COLD START, WARM START, and RUN NOW columns in the row, labeled PS 14V and PS 28V.
  • Press the space bar until the "X" indication disappears.

NOTE: In disabling the Power Supply diagnostics reports, the 14V and the 5V lines will be monitored by the Power Amplifier (PA) diagnostics report, and in case of a failure in either of these voltages, the PA diagnostics will report the failure (except the Quantar receiver, no PA diagnostics).

This is an Informational Bulletin Only.
